We will never back down."<br><br>Predictably, the discussion, and the debate on the Assembly's chamber floor, fell along party lines, and became heated when a white, male, republican, began to frame the debate, not around choice but around race depicting inaccurate statistics on <strong>Black women</strong> receiving abortions, which in his opinion was resulting in racial genocide. Although he called on his colleagues to band together to make sure that communities had the resources that they needed to take care of all babies that are brought to term, the republicans have been largely responsible for eroding the social safety net, and siphoning off resources that would benefit families, like efforts to de-fund <strong>Planned Parenthood</strong>.<br><br></div>

Making a choice to have an abortion can be an agonizing decision in and of itself, and not one that is taken lightly [1]. According to National Abortion Federation, the most common reasons for choosing not to have a child is due to lack of money, and or readiness to start and/or expand their families. In addition, if statistics are going to be used, they should not be used selectively to target one group of women. They should be used to show the entire picture including the overall number of Americans that travel outside of the United States to obtain abortions, and place these statistics within a context. <br></div>

The Assembly's measure does not change any requirements or provisions regarding health insurance, but simply protects an employee's freedom to make health decisions without fear of retaliation, <strong>Assemblymember Bichotte</strong> noted.</div>

She is currently the C<strong>hair of the Subcommittee on Oversight of Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises (MWBEs), and serves on the following committees: Housing, Government Operations, Economic Development, Small Businesses, Banks and Social Services</strong>. She is also the <strong>Vice Chair of the NYS Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators </strong>and sits on<strong> Governor Cuomo's Domestic Violence Advisory Council</strong>. </div>
